Emily MefortI am a certified music teacher with a bachelors in Music Education from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. I taught Elementary Music in Colorado Springs for six years. As a school music teacher I taught over 500 students in grades K-6 each year. Each day I incorporated singing, movement, playing instruments (rhythm band, recorders, xylophones, guitars and more), and music reading and writing into my classes. I also directed a choir of over 40 students. In addition to teaching students I taught music technology workshops to other music teachers and contributed to writing district music standards, assessments and curriculum.
My special certification is in the Orff-Schulwerk method of music education, which incorporates singing, movement, instrument playing, rhythm, speech and drama to allow children to make music as natural a part of their lives as talking and walking. I was a member of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association (AOSA) and was the Secretary of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of AOSA for 2 years. I incorporate many of those techniques into my piano classes by using speech, rhythm patterns, and movement as much as possible to teach concepts to children, as well as encouraging improvisation and composition. After the birth of our first daughter I moved from public school teaching to focus on piano lessons. Currently I am a stay-at-homeschooling mom to my three girls (Eliana, age 13, Natalie, age 10 and Clara, age 7) and I run my home-based piano studio. In 2017, after over 10 years of private piano and guitar teaching I converted my studio to group classes. I had over 20 private students and now I am able to teach over 50 students in group classes. I am a previous member of the Lincoln Music Teacher's association (LMTA) and have entered students in their district festival in past years. |

Jack Carlson
Hello All!
My name is Jack Carlson, and I am in my senior year at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I was born and raised in North Platte, Nebraska, and have been invested in music from a young age through musicals, private lessons, and school ensembles. I’m currently studying as a Bachelor of Arts in Violin Performance with a minor in Entrepreneurship. Here at Lincoln, I’m a member of the Cornhusker Marching Band on Alto Sax and in the UNL Symphony Orchestra as a Violinist. Until last spring, I was on the Music Education track attending practicums, instrumental skills classes, and had the opportunity to work after school with the UNL String Project teaching 3rd graders how to play strings! I’m eager to work with Miss Emily and your students this year teaching private lessons and group sessions while having fun making music together! |
Cadynce Richmond
Hi! My name is Cadynce Richmond, and I am in my first year of nursing school at Bryan College of Health Sciences. I was born and raised right here in Lincoln. I have grown up next to Miss Emily my whole life. Starting in first grade she taught me piano lessons for 7 years! In school, I participated in choir for 5 years. In 2018 I started helping Miss Emily with group lesson classes. Last year, I had the opportunity to teach games to most of the students to make piano even more fun. This year, I am very excited to start teaching private lessons! I love each and every one of the students and really enjoy seeing all of the improvement over the years. I am eager to get to know them on a more personal level as I help them improve their piano skills and have fun!
